This is a painting that hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. To some it might also look like a collection of lines and squiggles with no aesthetic value, but I am quite sure that to the artist, and
to many others, this painting has meaning, depth and beauty. The same
is true of both mathematics and physics. I don't know enough about
modern art to appreciate this painting, but to me the quadratic
equation, and Newton's Laws, are things of great beauty once their
meaning, context and utility are understood.
Let me now give you a couple of examples of what I mean by synthesis of natural phenomena.
