Assumptions:
-  We treat objects as point particles (no rotational motion - more
on this in chapter 8).
-  We neglect masses of ropes and springs. One consequence of this
assumption is that the force exerted along a rope is the same at all points
in the rope.
Note: In problems with several bodies, apply Newton's 2nd law to
one body at a time.
